About me ...
Publications:
Christine Colloby was born in Birmingham and grew up in the fifties in the aftermath of war. She moved to a Staffordshire village when she married, the county being the birthplace of her paternal grandparents who later moved to find work in the city. Finding through family history that her maternal grandparents came from Gloucestershire and Lincolnshire, she and her cousins have researched them thoroughly and Chris won a BBC Radio prize for her contribution to a genealogy programme. She has also placed “Memories of a Fifties Childhood” in Birmingham Central Library and received responses from people of her own surname in America. She has written local history books, placed articles on the Tamworth Heritage Trust website and had two articles on Tamworth put on the Encyclopaedia Britannica website.
Having always wanted to write a novel, and starting some which she didn`t finish, Chris settled down to researching an era of prehistory she was most interested in, that which covered Neanderthal Man. It was surprising to learn that only 24,000 years ago there were at least two species of man living on earth, and we should perhaps be a bit concerned that we are the only one left! Are we, Modern Man, descended from them, despite science saying not? The latest DNA research has found that there is much more to learn on this subject before a decision can be reached. Up-to-date archaeology in Sussex reveals that far from being in decline as first thought at that time, Neanderthal was thriving and living fairly amicably alongside Modern Man as an exchange of ideas over tools and weapons showed. Also that, despite having a reputation for being savage, he was gentle, living in family groups and caring for the old and injured. He buried his dead with ceremony, usually within the caves where they lived. Chris found a respect for these far-distant forebears of ours, and decided to write a science-fiction, adventure-romance, about them which she hopes readers will enjoy and which will give them a new insight into this long-lost part of our history that is slowly coming to be, at last, thoroughly investigated.
